Effects of Non-ionizing EMR on Children, and Other Countries' Regulations to Protect Children

This 20-page paper authored by Professor Tom Butler at College Cork in Ireland summarizes the research presented in many scientific articles, listed as references at the end:

"Clear Evidence of the Risks to Children from Smartphone and WiFi Radio Frequency Radiation"

Refer to pg. 9 to gain an understanding of why the current radiation emission standards in the U.S. are insufficient to protect children, or any of the population, for that matter.

On pg. 15, Professor Butler explains "there is only one realistic course of action. Children and adolescents should not be using smartphones, or WiFi-enabled tablet devices, and their expose to RFR sources should be minimized. This might seem impractical in the digital world, but in our real analogue world, children and teenagers are no longer permitted legal access to cigarettes, nor is it socially acceptable for adults to smoke in their presence. Given the current scientific evidence, the pathophysiological properties of RFR [radiofrequency radiation] appear to be no different than cigarette smoke or similar carcinogens."

This November 2020 article in Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics details the effects of EMR, explaining the various common sources, with 56 references linked at the end.

"Health effects of electromagnetic fields on children"

A Swedish study of schools with wi-fi, published in November 2017 in Frontiers in Public Health, ultimately concluded that the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines are based on short-term heating (thermal) effects, and are therefore not relevant to decide on the appropriateness of long-term exposure; and that the environmental exposure to RF radiation in some schools is higher than reported levels for non-thermal biological effects.  It is recommended for schools to prefer wired network connections and to allow laptop, tablet and mobile phone usage only in flight mode and to deactivate wi-fi access points when internet is not needed for learning purposes.

Iceland, France, and Russia have introduced legislation to ban or limit wi-fi in schools due to the non-thermal effects of microwave radiation, which has been demonstrated to be much more damaging to children's brains and bodies than adults'.  France and Russia both have the longest history of studying the effects of microwaves, each over 100 years.

February 2017, Iceland:  Reykjavik Appeal on Wireless Technology in Schools was signed into effect.

2015:  France bans wi-fi in nursery school and limits use in elementary schools.

June 2012:  Recommendations of the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection of the necessity to regulate strictly the use of Wi-Fi in kindergartens and schools

Russia banned cell phones in schools December 2023 for the reason of reducing the risk to children's health, as a mobile phone was cited to be the number one source of risk:
